2019 Spring Festival Couplets Competition Calligraphy Category Winners

We would like to express our biggest thanks to all participants, performers, parents and judges. The finals held on 20th January 2019 at The Star Vista was a great success! We hope you enjoyed watching the calligraphers displaying their talent and the choir performance by Nanyang Khek Community Guild Choir.

For the Spring Festival Couplets Calligraphy Category, the judging team is formed by Mr Choo Thiam Siew (Executive Director/Chief Executive Director of International Chinese Cultural Exchange Federation & President of General Society for Chinese Classical Poetry), Mr Wong Joon Tai (Artistic Director at Nanyang Calligraphy Centre and Editor of The Nanyang Calligraphy Magazine) and Mr Heng Wei Chia (Chairman of The Bishan Chinese Calligraphy Club and ShiCheng Calligraphy and Seal-Carving Society Director).

The judges also decided to use composing category 1st prize winner Mr Chng Tzu Pang’s composed piece as the theme for Open Category Calligraphy Competition.

2019 Spring Festival Couplets Competition Composing and Calligraphy Category Preliminary Round have closed on 7th December 2018.

Thank you all for your participation.

Spring Couplets Calligraphy Competition finals and prize presentations for the composing category will be held on 20th January 2019, 1pm-5.30pm at The Star Vista (B1 Star Plaza).

We are honoured to invite Nanyang Khek Community Guild Choir to perform Chinese New Year songs for us.

We welcome all to join us for the competition and performance!

Calligraphy Category

Composing Category

After much deliberation, our judges Mr Choo Thiam Siew (Director of International Chinese Cultural Exchange Federation & President of General Society for Chinese Classical Poetry), Dr Lam Lap (Associate Professor in Department of Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore, Vice President of General Society for Chinese Classical Poetry) & Ms Lin Zi (President of Xin Sheng Poet Society & Vice-President of General Society for Chinese Classical Poetry) have chosen the 8 best composed pieces from the open and tertiary category.

2019 Spring Festival Couplets Competition

Spring Festival couplets are the most commonly seen examples of Chinese couplets, and putting on auspicious couplets to welcome the Chinese New Year is a traditional Chinese custom.

The competition is divided into two categories:

  1. Spring Festival Couplets Composing Category
    • Open Category: For contestants 18 years old and above
    • Tertiary school category: For current students of tertiary education institutions, including junior colleges and pre-university centres
  2. Spring Festival Couplets Calligraphy Category
    • Open Category: For current students of tertiary education institutions, including junior colleges and pre-university centres, and contestants 18 years old and above
    • Secondary School Category: For Secondary School Students
    • Upper Primary Category: For Primary 4 to Primary 6 Students

Submission deadline: 7 December 2018 (Friday)
